Name succession
I am Thomas J. Jr. , my son is Thomas J. III. He was named when my father was alive; thus he was the III. My father is now deceased. If my son names his as yet to be born son Thomas J., would he be Thomas J. IV?
If not, what is correct?

He would be Thomas J. IVSince he is the fourth in the family of the same name. Whether or not your father was dead doesn't factor in, unless you want to create mass confusion, at least, in my understanding.
