Onlia- what have I named my daughter?
From the second we found out we were having a girl my husband & I could not agree on a name. Hours before my labor started we agreed on Onlia (on-lee-a). It was my great-grandmother's middle name. I believe that she was Irish, my great-grandfather was black Irish. We have not found any information on the name. I look in her bright blue eyes and wonder what will I be able to tell her about her name. Help please!!

I have heard of the name Oneila which is an adaptation of an Irish second name and is quite popular here in Scotland. Could Onlia perhaps be an alteration of this name?

That would make sense. My grandfather says that the way she pronounced it (but did not spell it) was on-a-lee. Just wondering if an "Irish second name" is what we in America call a middle name? Thank you for helping us!

Sorry! Second name here means surname - as in the Irish surname O'Neil. Hope this helps!
