The Penguin Book of Hindu Names by Maneka Gandhi says that Hasika is from a Sanskrit word that meant "abloom; smiling; causing laughter."

The literal meaning in Sanskrit is laughter, jester or causing laughter. Abloom is poetic license, I guess :-)

Yay! I had thought that it meant laughter but I was unsure. Such a lovely meaning for such a lovely name! :D
