Ariadne and Evadne
Ariadne means "most holy.'' If adnos means ''holy'' why doesn't Evadne mean ''good holy?" What does αδνη translate into?

I don't know, and I wish I did.Pavlos, who used to post regularly here, started a website about Greek names which was really useful. I lost the URL in a computer crash. But if anyone else still has it, first of all I'd love to have it back and second, if anyone has the answer, it's probably Pavlos ...

It probably does mean "holy", but remember, the Greek myths were created thousands of years ago, and meanings of names can be lost to history. Many of the names from Greek mythology have meanings that are not known.

Almost all of the Greek names on here have meanings. Names very similar to Evadne have meanings. I know the ''eu/ev'' means ''good.''
