Subject: British pronunciation of Georgia?

In Australia and the USA the i isn't sounded but I'm curious as to whether the i is sounded in the UK.
The Oxford Popular Dictionary of Babies' Names (Hanks & Hodges, pub. 1986)implies that the i in -ia is pronounced in this name, because the pronunciation key is the same as Julia etc.
I'm baffled!
