Pronunciation of Adelais?
I'm not a French speaker so forgive me if the pronunciations I give are a bit off.I am aware that when spelled Adelaïs the name would be pronounced ah-deh-la-EES. Without the umlaut over the 'i' I'm told it's pronounced AD-lay by a beginning French speaker. I was under the impression it was pronounced AHD-eh-lay, without the second syllable being as vocal but still present.Which is correct? Thanks!

It's not an umlaut, it's a diaeresis. Sorry for that.
The French have their own way of pronouncing 'e's inbetween two consonants. Usually, they don't pronounce it or do so very faintly. And the -ais sound is pronounced like the 'e' in 'bed'.

No worries! I'd rather be corrected for calling something the wrong name than to continue to do it oblivious to my mistake. Thank you so much. I'd been wondering about the pronunciation for a while. :)
