So it is, and so are all surnames if there are sound family reasons for giving them to girls. People who feel that girls need masculinising to be noticed sometimes enjoy using surnames as girl given names even if there is no family link, and why not? Being Irish has nothing to do with it. And there is no need for gratuitous rudeness on this or any board.
