Re: Is 'Rayaan' meaning/referring to Lord Vishnu in Sanskrit?
in reply to a message by Jay
First of all, the name is nArAYaNa, with A being long (like in English car) and a being a schwa (like the first sound in English about). But, in that nA- is not a prefix, it comes from nR/nara, and means son of man. I can't find raYAna or raYANa in Sanskrit. rAYAna appears as a name of the husband of rAdhA (kRSNa's main love interest) in late literature, but I do not know it as a name of viSNu.I have not seen the word raYaAMsha in Sanskrit. I do not know why raYa (which basically means speed) would mean viSNu.Where in the bhagavadgItA did you find Sreyan meaning viSNu?

That should have read: " ... and means man, nArAYaNa meaning son of man. ...".
