How to pronounce Maurice.
I think it's pronounced "Morris" in the UK rather than "MauREECE" because we don't want to acknowledge it's French. Sounds silly, perhaps, but perfectly logical.

It's surprisingly hard to pronounce a French word consistently in French when speaking English. Try saying a few sentences with Natalie, and then replace it with the French Nathalie. And that's got nothing to do with any cross-Channel animosity. It's just a matter of rearranging one's vocal tract.And then there are Morris dancers, making that pronunciation familiar.
