vincent = jimmie / jimmy
just came across previous post from 2003. my dentist is named vincent [italian last name], & his family also refers to him as "jimmie". i thought that my brain was failing when i heard it, but he assured me that i heard correctly. he said that it's common in italian families! well, my best friend is italian, but her uncle vincent is called "vince", & they moved here from italy. i think it's strange, but not that unusual, i guess.

Is it his middle name, or do they use it like a colloquial demonym?A colloquial demonym is like how Australians use Bruce / Sheila for a man & woman, generally. In the US, it would be Joe / Jane or Jack / Jill, to name a few.
