suggested correction to displayed spelling of a name
May I respectfully point out that the listed spelling of the name Mendel is incorrect. The name, as written and as pronounced in Yiddish is Mendl. There is no (Hebrew letter) Aien following the Dalet. And there is no "e" sound following the d sound when the name is spoken. "Mendel" is a distortion of the name.

Adding to what egyptianpanda mentioned, I would also note that although Mendl would be more accurate, Mendel is the more usual transcription. This post did impel me to go through the Yiddish names on the site and make corrections. These will appear next update.

A quick Google search in Hebrew brings up quite a few people named "מנדעל". Even if Mendl is more accurate to the original, Mendel deserves to have its own entry, as both people in non-Yiddish speaking countries and in Israel are using it as a name. You are more than welcome to (and I think you should) add Mendl to the database as the original form of Mendel.
