I saw reference to Cully and I thought that I'd mention that I live in a village near Cullompton in Devon and that the town is often referred to as Cully by local residents. -

Not unexpectedly the town was first recorded as Columtune (the e is probably just a grammatical marker for an oblique declension), named from an eponymous Colum (like the saint), from Latin Columba (dove), via a British language. In this case you could say Cully is a short form or diminutive of Columba
