Behind the Name: Message: "the name "Thinh""

A girl recently told me that her name is "Thinh." I don't know what ethnicity she is, but I'm thinking it might be a variation on the Vietnamese "Thanh." Does anyone here know enough Vietnamese to know if the letters 'a' and 'i' have a close enough pronunciation to be interchangeable?
