Does anyone know what my name means?
I've been curious all my life, and i can never ever find it on any website anywhere. I know it's unisex (i'm a girl by the way), and i've seen a couple peaople with the same name. I just want to know what it means.

Two options (click on the hyperlinks for meanings):1) As Diana said, it's probably a variation of Taryn, which in turn is an elaboration of Tara.2) It could be a contraction of Terri - Anne when on a girl, and an elaboration of Terry for a boy.But my money is on a).It probably isn't in our database simply because the site creator doesn't know which origin is correct - less common names don't get added to the site unless their origin can be fairly well established.Hope that helps :-)

Another theoryWhat about a takeoff of Terran, as in someone who lives on Terra III, a.k.a Earth? Dictionary.com says Terra means "earth, land".Kind of like Eartha, only not.Miranda

Good point :-)

Re:It may not be listed as a name because it's probably just a diff. spelling of Taryn, which is listed. Try babynames.com to search for the meaning.

Actually...Babynames.com is a very good naming site. I speak as a member of it for four years. It's worth paying for!

I'm a member too - the meanings/origins are generally unreliable :)

I am also a member there. The name database is near-useless; The meanings are mostly way off. But the FORUMS - They are friendly, more mature than most, and very active...but not free.

Can anyone tell me the meaning of the name Helminger? I have also found it spelled on gravestones, Hellminger. I would appreciate any help. Thank you. Kathy Helminger

I think HELMINGER is a personal name derived from the place-name Helming. As far as I can see, there are three places by that name in Germany and they are all located in Bavaria. The place-name again probably goes back to a personal name with the Germanic element "Helm" (helmet), like Helmfried or Helmbrecht. I wouldn't get confused by the double L.Hope this helps.Andy ;—)

well...Some of the meanings are wrong and some of them are not. It's better than one of my baby names books though, so I have to give it some credit.-Seda*

Lol . . .. . . that's not saying much, given some of the shockers of name books that I've seen."sometimes accurate" doesn't equal "accurate". And the odd points of accuracy don't excuse the massive mis-information that sites like that perpetrate.Compared to the painstaking accuracy - and acknowledgement of missing knowledge - at BtN, babynames.com is just mush. But I'm sure you know that! :-D
