I would strongly advise your friend against naming her son "Ashley". Perhaps she may consider the more masculine form of "Ashton"?

Sorry, Ashley may have been perceived as a masculine name in years gone by, but nowadays any boy named "Ashley" is going to be perceived as being a sissy-boy.
