It's a Tahitian name that is said to be Marquesan origin, but I don't know the real meaning of the name other than it's origin.

Looks like it is also a Kiribati (Gilbertese) word that also means Marquesan, as in one from the Marquesas Islands. I highly doubt it is a name you’d find local to the Marquesas Islands, but rather what other neighboring islands called them.
