Ernulphus
This name is new to me. Its bearer in South Africa, ln Hedding, was born on a Wesleyan mission station in 1874, and was the grandfather of someone I knew who is now deceased. Surname was Hedding. A daughter was named Loorna with a double o. That's all I know, but I'd love to know if his name actually belonged to anyone else or if it was invented for his exclusive use!

Some quick googling gave me this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernulf

Brilliant - so his parents tweaked the spelling to make it more Latin-looking than German! Most interesting - thank you.

They didn't tweak it. Ernulphus IS the Latin form of the name. It appears this way in Latin language writing about the historical bishop of Rochester Ernulf.

Ernulf ís ostensibly ern+wulf (erne "eagle" and wolf), but the first element could also be an n-stem variant of ere- honor.
