Mateland?

I met a Mateland, but couldn't find it in the database. Compound names are common, but this doesn't appear to be that. Any knowledge on this one?

Did you see the name spelled out or just hear it? If this has really been given, it's probably because the parents heard the name Maitland and didn't know how to spell it.

I saw it spelled out. Maitland variant, intentional or not, is the likely explanation. Thank you!
