The derivation of this German name seems to be debated. I found this:
a) Short form of names with the Germanic element SUN; tghis again might be from Germanic *sunja = true, or else form Germanic *sônô = judgment
b) "little son"
c) maybe connented to Old High German SUNNA (sun)
