My name is also Montessa. In all the searching I’ve done I have had to rely on using the name Tessa, which everyone calls me. It means gatherer. I found out from someone I met from Honduras about a month ago that it means, to hunt in tall grass.

I feel that it is an Anglicized variation of Chaim, which is masculine for "life" (the "ch" combination is pronounced like a very guttoral "h", almost like you are about to spit, but not quite) (Nanaea, please correct me if I'm wrong about the pronunciation).Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

You're right, Phyllis. Waddaya asking me for? You're a member of the same tribe, after all. :)-- Nanaea

P.S. Daividh's an honorary tribal member, due to his......frightening resemblance to Krusty the Klown. :)

Argh! You peeked! But it's true that most of the hair on one's head now resides right above (or in) one's ears. And green might be a refreshing change...My history as an honorable tribal member goes way back. When I was a kid in an older New England city, us and the cranky Catholic lady up the street were the only non-Jews on the block. And yes, not some but ALL of my best friends were Jewish. At school and in the neighborhood, we celebrated the Jewish holidays and knew the drill on Kosher food laws. And it took me a coupla years after moving to white-bread Midwest suburbia not to reach up to touch the Mezuzah when entering a friend's house.Sometimes I miss the old neighborhood, but you guys help me keep in touch with the old pseudo-roots... : )-- Davye

NanaeaYeah, and for bitin' troublemakers where it hurts the most (or siccin' your minpins and having THEM bite the troublemakers). :DPhyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)btw: I have a bit of trouble explaining the sound to others because of all of the different languages that I've collected (Irish, Arabic, Hebrew, French, Italian, Spanish, German) and I'm going to be taking Japanese this semester.

My suggestion would be to just complete the assignmet with "my parents made up my name." Maybe you could ask your parents about the whole process - what other names did they consider, how did they come up with this one, etc. - and include that as well. You could include some of the suggestions posted here as an interesting aside. After all, there's nothing wrong with having a name with no meaning. It wouldn't make your answer wrong in any way.

Montessa could be considered a variant spelling of Montesa. This appears to have been the name of a fortified stronghold in Spain (Kingdom of Aragon) in the Middle Ages. The name was adopted by a Catholic military order, The Order of Montesa, which succeeded the disbanded Knights Templar in Spain in the early 1300's. The order survived into the 20th century, altho it may no longer be active.Montesa is best known as a popular brand of Spanish motorcycle, which was successful in racing and was bought out by Honda in the 1980's. The motorcycle got its name from the military order.Hope this is of some help, altho it may not have been what your parents had in mind.

The reason why *TSE MOANS*....I have consulted the Anagram Oracle, and *MONTESSA* which alludes to *SOS MANET*, a short lived chinese art student's commune headed by the late *SEN M. TSAO* which defended Impressionism in the late sixties to against Socialist Realism. The group was crushed by members of the paramilitary group *MAO'S NEST*, during the so-called Cultural Revolution.Alternatively, the name Montessa could have been inspired by the wife of the Count of Montecristo. (Contessa Montecristo, Montessa for short).

PS...*S EN M* TSAO's twin brother survived and now manages the basement of Power Exchange, a San Fransisco-based social club.
