meaning of name
My friend, SLADJANA, is a serbian girl, but she was born in Czech. I can't tell if the name belongs to any particular region. I can't seem to find any reference for this name. Thank you.

The name is probably derived from the Slavic element slad meaning "sweet". It is either Serbian or Croatian, definitely not Czech.

Slavic names and name elements are used in Czechoslovakia as well as in the former Yugoslavic countries.:-)

The element is used in Czechoslovakia but not the name. (I am from Czech Republic, so I ought to know.)

Lol, fair enough! My grandfather (Paul) grew up in & near Prague so I have a Czech connection too, although he doesn't remember much Czech now - his parents were from Sudetenland and spoke German, and then he was evacuated to England via the Kindertransport when he was 14 anyway.:-)
