When Jake turned 28, he realised it was almost ten years since he left Prague and he had not heard anything from his family back home. He had left in a rush, and had not bothered to leave any sort of message behind. He figured his parents would hate him forever after he had come out of the closet. But now, nine years later, he wasn't so sure. Besides, even if his parents still rejected him, he wondered what his older brother, Rafael, and younger sister, Marcela, would think... He had not even told them that he was gay, and he missed them very much. So after a months of thinking, he decided to go back to Prague and visit his family (Don, Sadie and Evan stayed in New York, Jake figured that it would be too much of shock to introduce all of them too).
To go back to Prague was very emotional and he wished Don was there with him as he walked down the streets where he had grown up. He felt proud over his hometown, love, the warmth of recognition and love that his native language was spoken all around him. But he also felt scared and sad. Eventually he worked up the courage to knock on the door of the house where he had grown up. His mother, Karolína, opened it, and for a moment they just stared at each other. Then, when Jake almost had given up hope, she gave him a long, tight hug.
"Son, I've missed you so much!" Jake's mother cried, and asked for Jake's forgiveness, she said she had been the worst mother on Earth who couldn't accept all sides of her son.
"Of course I forgive you, mother! Where is father? Tell me he feels the same!" Jake answered, but then Karolína's smile faded.
"I can't. He died two years after you left..."
Jake was devastated to hear that, but when he met his brother and sister again, his sadness went away. They had, just like his mother, missed him a lot and did not mind at all that he was gay. When Jake eventually had to go back to New York, he convinced them to visit soon!
Jake was greeted by great news: the adoption agency had a child who needed a family and asked if the Holmwood-Rezníks wanted to adopt him. Of course Don and Jake said yes, and named the new son Rafael after Jake's brother.
