Geneviève and Teemu have a four year old son and a daughter who has just turned one. They chose to name their son Matthias as it works in French and Finnish (albeit spellt Matias) and they liked the sound of Matthias Ikävalko. There was no particular reason for chosing Matthias over Matias, apart from that Geneviève felt it looked more complete. His middle name, Dmitri, honours his Russian Karelian heritage, and is a name that they both really liked but felt was too bold to use as a first name.
They wanted their daughter to have an M name too, and picked Mélisande because they felt it went well with Matthias. They nearly picked Aoife as a middle name, and they couldn't find any traditional Russian or Finnish names which worked with their choice of first name - then, one day, Geneviève came across Aurora in a baby name book, and it just seemed to fit, a name after Finland and Russia's northern lights and one that is apparently occasionally used in Finland as well.
