Young Reuben has finally arrived! Throughout her pregnancy Anya was told her baby was going to be small, but not to worry, as he wasn't abnormally so. Four weeks before her due date she felt her waters break and knew something wasn't right; at the hospital she was told she was in labour but just a few hours later a doctor reassessed and found Reuben was in the breach position and Anya would struggle to give birth to him naturally. As her contractions continued, midwives massaged Anya to try and coax Reuben into turning - this was working - until his heartbeat suddenly dropped. Anya was rushed into theatre for an emergency C-section and doctors found the umbilical cord had wrapped around Reuben's neck. He was blue and initially wasn't breathing. But after a few heart-pounding moments, Anya and Stefan heard him cry! Reuben was weak but a fighter, he went into an incubator for six days but Anya was able to hold and breastfeed him all the while. Stefan's taken extended paternity leave to help with the older three children as Anya brings Reuben home. Doctors are pleased with the progress he's made but warn that his difficult birth may have repercussions - only time will tell!
Meanwhile, Evie has settled into Year 2 at her new school, she seems much happier in the small, village school than the one she started at two years ago. Anya and Stefan are delighted she has made friends and is enjoying her time there.
