I would guess that it's a variation of Meredith, perhaps influenced by the word meridian. (www.answers.com/meridian). There's also several US towns named Meriden (http://www.answers.com/meriden).

yeah one of the techers called her meridian for ages, and then the teacher asks if that's how you say her name and she says, "No, it's Meridan!"~*~*~*~
