Help! No where seems to have a meaning to my name :o(
Just wondering if any clever person knows the meaning of my name. I'm sick of people going to me 'ooh wheres that name from?' and not being able to give an answer!!! I am a female from the UK and have lived here all my life.Don't know much about the name itself, only that it was passed down through three generations after my great auntie erleen died as a baby. My family background is from england itself, although there are distant links to ireland and scotland.any info would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks, Erleen x

Emily does not mean "industrious", it means "rival". Click the link for more details.

Various US baby name websites give a meaning of "noblewoman" for names like Erleen, Erlene, Earline, or Earlina. The idea behind this meaning is obviously that these names should be seen as female forms of the male name Earl.On the one hand this seems possible to me, on the other hand these baby name websites tend to be very unreliable, and do not give sources for their informations anyway.I was not able to find other, reliable information about Erleen. With only about 1000 hits when doing a Google search this name is probably very rare, with a corresponding lack of information.

It could also be a variation of Arlene (click link).
