Curious on Irish pronunciations and Dialect variations
I see that on here, Niamh and Sadhbh are pronounced as "NEEV" and "SIEV", but on other sites and comments, I see possibilities for "nee-iv" and "sah-eev" - I know there are different dialects in different areas, but is it possible for both pronunciations to be correct (since they dffer from region to region? Or am I seeing this wrong?) Thanks!ETA: Let me clarify my question. I meant, am I just seeing different pronunciations because of different dialects, or because people think they know what they're talking about when they don't?"You know you are in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams. -Dr. Seuss

You are seeing different pronunciations because of different dialects & accents. Both are correct and acceptable. My husband's grandmother and I once counted 6 or 7 different ways we had come across Siobhan( my name) pronounced in Ireland depending on where the speaker was from and if they were primarily Irish speakers or not (ie Irish people who speak Irish more than English).

Thanks! I appreciate it because I prefer some pronunciations over others that I've seen listed for a few irish names wondering if they were legit or not. And btw your name is pretty!
