Re: Maren
A woman I used to work with named her baby Maren - pronounced to rhyme Karen - in about 1997 or so. She picked out the name long before the birth. So I had lots of time to think about it. When I first heard it, I liked it. But after a while, it started to sound grating and harsh. Sort of a villainness name. Cruella's twin sister. I don't know where I got that idea. The same woman named her next daughter Ryan, and that didn't help me like the name Maren more. I lovehated it for many years - it has a shape I should love, so why does it irritate me? Now I'm basically neutral, but I don't find it very appealing personally. If it were pronounced MAR-en instead, I think that's ... kind of nice. It's not easy since I think people would say MAIR-en. But people are teachable. Hm. I never thought about that before, but I think I like it prn MAR-en.
