Has anyone else ever heard of this name, or anything like it? The woman whose name it is is from Holland originally, and her surname is Jol (she owns a big gymnastics club in Western Australia). I've always been curious about it because it doesn't look at all like an European girls' name.

Haven't seen it either - but doesn't it remind you of Anneke and similar diminutive forms? My guess would be that Petronella would give you Nella or Nelle, which would give you Nelleke. And then, just chop off the final e and voila! It would work in Dutch.
