Woodard (or Huddart) is an old English surname from the two elements Eold English "wudu" (wood) and "hierde" (herd). So the meaning would be "one who tends animals feeding in an wood" (probably a swineherd). (Taken from: Oxford, A Dictionary of English Surnames, 1997).Good luck!
