I first learned of the name Bennett when I read about it in the original “Freakonomics” book by Dubner and Levitt, around 2005-2006. I went on to name my son this in mid 2007. The authors predicted that the name would take off and it seems that they were correct. 12 years later, we’ve been very happy with this name selection and it fits our son. He typically goes by his full name, Bennett, or occasionally, Ben.

In my opinion, the name is just alright. Although modern and trendy, more suitable as a surname, it surpasses many of today's names in comparison. However, I happen to have a negative association attached to it. 'Bennett' happens to be the name of an elementary school located within my current district. It is not a particularly good school as far as too many students end up repeating a grade. A practice that I STRONGLY oppose as I believe, without a shred of doubt, that that hurts a child more than it does help them. Of course I certainly wouldn't use the name myself (and not just because of the association I have) but I understand why many would. >●~●.
Bennett is such a great boy name! It blows my mind people would think that this is good to use on girls.

For a girl- I love it! For a boy- don’t like it at all. Way toooo feminine! All males should have strong names while all females should have all kinds of names! Girls rule! Tee hee!

I like this name, so we gave it to our cat. Bennett D'Angelo (yes, he has a middle name, because I just like names). Anyway, he's a brat, so he got the nickname Benito when we discovered that was Mussolini's first name. He mostly goes by Ben or Benny though.

I know a boy named Bennett. Pretty much everyone but me calls him Ben, but I love saying his full name, so I swap the two regularly. Maybe it's because the Bennett I know is so fun and intelligent - but I really like this name.
A famous female bearer of this name is Bennett Halverson from Dollhouse, a brilliant programmer who is also slightly crazy. She was played by Summer Glau.

Originally a French name, Bennett made its way mysteriously into Wales during the Renaissance. It remains a rather common name in Wales, as well as in the state of Utah, where it is a common surname and often memorialized as a given name. From Benedictus (Latin: good speaker), though it is now commonly defined as meaning "small beloved" or "little beloved."
