One of my best friends is named Alina (I believe she is Slavic in origin) and we both agree that her name is very pretty. It wasn't as common in use back when we were born, but we think it's great that more people are starting to appreciate its beauty.
I really like this name a lot, it is so beautiful.
I love the name Alina and find it super pretty.
Very pretty name, but overused in Hispanic communities. I somewhat like that it's become more popular now and will be used with a younger generation.
As a ballet lover, this name makes me think of a gorgeous ballerina!
I like this spelling better than Alena and Aleena.
One of the prettiest names I’ve ever heard. Love both Alina and Aliana!
I prefer Aliana, but they’re both stunning!
Alina is a studious name, but also adorable and fun-loving.
So elegant.
Very eleagant and pretty.
In love with this name, although prefer Aliana... so pretty and elegant!
Very elegant in my opinion.
I love how diverse this name is in Slavic countries. It's also really pretty.
Leaning towards Aliana (pronounced Allie-ana), which we fell in love with. Alina’s cute as well.
Gorgeous!
This name is simply gorgeous! Alina sounds so angelic, so ethereal, so regal. Alina's beauty goes beyond words. It possesses a certain je ne sais quoi that makes it stand out from all the rest.
Very beautiful.
Never heard this name before. It's cute.
I want to change my name to this...
Alina is probably one of the few names that I can think of that has various beautiful meanings. Fair, noble, beautiful, bright, light, silk of heaven.
I love the way this name sounds (A-leen-a).
I have always hated my name; however, after realizing it's rare I fell in love with it. But recently I have noticed the name is picking up momentum and it's losing its value. I have met 6 people with the same name. 1 girl from my linguistics class, the other 3 were named after me, and the other 3 were from South Asia. Well, at least I have my middle name, that's pretty rare too and I hope No one names their kid that except my best friend.
It's written as "ألينا" in Arabic. [noted -ed]
My name is Alina and here in Australia it is not too common, but still a nice name which I love because I would hate to have a name that's overused. However, it is still common enough for people to know of it when they hear it, although I have gotten a large and amusing variety of spellings throughout my 17 years including: Uleena, Arleana, Elena, Ulina, Aleena, Alinah and Ahlina.
It is great to know the beautiful things people say about my name. I had no idea about the meaning of my name or its origin. It's great to know now. It's not so known here in Ghana and I love that.
I'm in my fifties and have only met a handful of other girls with my name. As a kid you just want to fit in so I hated having a different name. When I started dating, guys loved my name so I finally started loving it too. It also makes you memorable.
Glad to see so many here.
This is a gorgeous name and needs to be used more often in the US.
Alina is a beautiful & exotic name.
I know someone with this name, and yes she is Italian. For some reason, its often butchered as "Elena". I hate to say this, but I think it's best only to use this name if you're Italian or any of the other ethnicities it originates from. Otherwise it looks kind of creative or made up.
I think this is a pretty name. It is simple, easy to pronounce and say, but very elegant and sophisticated.
I'm jealous of anyone lucky enough to have this absolutely beautiful name. Alina sounds soft and feminine, with no harsh sounds. I love the way it means "to soothe" in Romanian. It really doesn't surprise me - Alina sounds very soothing, caressing and calming.
My best friend spells her name Aleena, but that variant is not on this site. She was born in Pakistan, but she says that most people there with her name spell it Alina. I think both ways are very beautiful, but I prefer Aleena to Alina.
Here in Finland, I haven't heard a single bad word about it. Most people love it! It's not common, that makes it special. Girls can easily use it as a first name, or second first name. Here I don't know anyone else named Alina, in Russia, I know one. It's easy to spell too! I love it! I feel lucky to have it. -Owner of name
This is SUCH a pretty name, and judging by the other comments, it has beautiful meanings in other languages. This name never caught on in Finland despite the popularity of the name Elina. I personally think Alina sounds nicer, and in Finnish, the first syllable is always stressed, so you can actually tell the difference, which you could hardly do in English. Whether you put the stress on the first or second syllable, it's a lovely name.
I don't like "Al" as a nickname for a girl. And I don't fancy "Lina" either. My name is Leanne and I've gotten "lean" all my life. "Elaina" or "Elanya" are both prettier sounding and looking than "Alina".
The name is also Romanian and just to let you know it's my girl cousin's name too :D. It's a very girly sort of name and very city like if you get what I mean.
It's a very pretty name.
This is such a beautiful name. Pronunciation seems varied, I only know of it pronounced a-LEAN-a.
Also spelled Alena, Aleena, Allena and Aline. I love this name, so very beautiful and sophisticated and not a fad name.
My name is Alina and I am from America. My parents found the name in a baby book and I am so pleased to learn of its popularity, growing up I hated that no one had my name. I was born in 1976 and it wasn't as common then.
I like the meaning of this name. I like the way it sounds, it's just so pretty!
My name is Alina and I'm proud having it. In my country (ROMANIA) it is becoming day by day more popular and that makes me feel very happy because it is a beautiful and powerful name.
My name is Alina. I always thought of it as quite boring but after realising it means noble I'm quite pleased! I never actually knew the origin either. I had lots of people say it was Greek, Russian, Spanish, etc! Nice to know that after being called a name for 17 years!
Beautiful!
I think that this name is very beautiful, very nice , and very popular. I very much like this name!
