My son is Boaz. We call him Buzz as a nickname. Jewish tradition identifies the biblical Boaz as a chieftain called "Iftzan" in the book of Judges.
Hitchcock's Dictionary of Bible names gives the meaning of Boaz as "in strength."Boaz, Obed and Ruth are mentioned in the lineage of Jesus in Matthew 1:5. (The King James version of Matthew 1:5 spells Boaz as "Booz." The Greek form of Boaz is as follows:
βοοζ
Except for being Ruth's husband, the name Boaz is also the south (left) pillar for Solomon's temple in I Kings 7.
What concerns the name Boaz it literally means "in Him is strength (might, courage)".
My name. It means 'swiftness'. A famous bearer was in the Book of Ruth. Boaz was the first Jew to marry outside the faith.
Boaz was NOT the first to marry outside the faith. Ruth had married Naomi's son, who was a Jew, BEFORE she married Boaz. That, and she had already adopted the Jewish faith herself long before she met Boaz.
