That's what the name means. I also loved this name for many years before I named him that, in the early 1970's. It's a very beautiful, Irish BOY name.
Then in 1968, people in the U.S. decided to be cool and give their girls a cool name that happened to also be a BOY name. Then when Kathie Lee Gifford named her daughter, Cassidy, it turned into the most popular girl name.
To hear people put this name down, and actually say it's revolting for a boy name, is very rude and ignorant. Is this how you treat the children in your life? People are proud of their names. And there is nothing wrong with taking a boy name and turning into a girl name. It's been done with many boy names, especially in the U.S.
So people, please, why tear down something someone is so proud of? Get your facts straight before you start publically humiliating people's hard earned beloved name.
