Celeste is the name of a brand name for microwave pizzas that I basically grew up on as a child. That's what I think of when I hear this name.
Celeste is one of the Runners in the PS3 game "Mirror's Edge".
I'm not sure she quite qualifies as a famous bearer, but Queen Celeste from the little kid Babar series is certainly the first person, uh, make that animal, that I think of when I hear this name. In the series, the capital city of the elephants is even called "Celesteville" after their queen. Because of the fact that I associate the name with the Queen of the Elephants (even though I love the Babar series and think everyone should read it to their children) the name has been somewhat ruined for me. However, I can appreciate the beauty of the name and its meaning, "heavenly". It is from the same root as the English word "celestial"
The Italian word that gives the meaning of this name is used in an Aria in the opera "Aida" by Giuseppe Vedri. The aria is "Celeste Aida" meaning "heavenly Aida." I like the name because I like the aria, and because my father and grandfather also liked this aria.
