Name Variation: Khaim. Found in 1897 Russian Census for Grodno Gubernia.
This name is traditionally given to a child in hope that he will reach an old age (see the meaning).
When a baby was named after someone who died at a young age, the name Chayim (or Chaya for a girl) was added to the name of that person, in order to bring good luck to the baby. A baby named after an Aharon or a Golda who died young would be Aharon Chayim (or Chayim Aharon), or Golda Chaya (Chaya Golda).
