This is a great name but if I may explain why some think it's demonic. There was a movie called The Omen in 1976 in which there was a young boy named Damien. The child evidently caused negative events and I think the deaths of some people. I'm not sure exactly because I never saw the movie. But if you look at the popularity chart for the name you can see it had a dip after the movie came out.
In 2018, 2 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Damian who is registered male with the Social Security Administration. It is the 769th most common male first name for living U.S. citizens.

Although Damiaan is the authentic, native Dutch form (originally, Latin names ending in -ianus always became -iaan in Dutch), it is not used as often in The Netherlands as Damian. Damiaan is rare nowadays, whereas Damian is fairly popular and has been steadily gaining in popularity since the early '90s. In 2003 the name Damian was at its most popular ever: that year, 380 newborn boys were given this name.As such, 'Dutch' should also be listed in the 'Usage' section for this name. :) [noted -ed]
I like the name, but since 6/6/06 has rolled around the name will be really popular. I am not a fan of popular names, since I have a ridiculous common name.
