Ebenhaezer, (yet another way to spell it probably Dutch.) is a settlement in West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. A mission station of the Rhenish Missionary Society at the mouth of the Olifants River in the former Vanrhynsdorp district was established here by a German named Wurmb in 1831.
Ebenezer is a biblical name. Back in the day people valued using biblical names to name their children. Now they prefer the names of celebrities. Ebenezer was not considered an unusual/uncommon name around the time of the Civil War. It only became negatively associated due to the first part of the famous Dickens' book. Eben is a more common variation and a perfectly nice name.
The name Ebenezer was given to 49 boys born in the US in 2015.
This name was very popular among the Puritans in New England in the 17th and 18th centuries.
