User comments for Elba (Meaning / History Only)

Elba is also used in Spanish-speaking countries. There, it was originally a nickname for names with the Germanic root 'alb' meaning "elf" (e.g. Alberica, Albrada, etc.). But over time, it was used as an independent name, influenced by the river and island of the same name. [noted -ed]
