Used by the popular British novelist Eleanor Burford (1906-1993) as a pen name, in which case it was formed from a contraction of her birth name, i.e., by combining the initial syllables of Eleanor (El) and Burford (-bur). She wrote four novels under the pseudonym Elbur Ford between 1950 and 1953, in which period a few boys were named Elbur, possibly after her literary alias.It is also a surname which may be related to the surname and given name Wilbur.
