I like this name way more than Elizabeth because it's more prettier and aesthetically pleasing compared to Elizabeth.
Prefer this spelling over the other one.
Elisabeth is a gorgeous name. Timeless, elegant, classic.
Better than how my name is spelt, Elizabeth. But I still hate it.
It's so beautiful, strong and elegant. ❤❤❤.
This spelling of Elisabeth sounds far more gentle and graceful in my point of view. It gives it that continental European flair that is just exquisite.
I think this version is a delightful alternative to the equally beautiful name Elizabeth. I personally wouldn’t mind using this if I ever do have a future daughter. Who knows?
I actually really love the S!
Elisabeth and Elizabeth give off very different vibes to me. I associate Elisabeth with flowers and nature, whereas Elizabeth has a much more royal feel to it. Honestly, I think both are equally nice and pretty.
I like Elizabeth better.
Elizabeth is great, but this just seems softer and more tender.
Love this name.
Why are these people saying this looks like a misspelled version of Elizabeth? It was the original spelling, so, technically, Elizabeth is the "misspelled version" of Elisabeth. But I do understand that people (even I) are used to the spelling Elizabeth and find this version weird and difficult to accept.
I prefer the spelling Elizabeth, the s just makes it look like an unbalanced spelling mistake.
Looks softer than Elizabeth.
Nahh. This looks like the parents can’t spell.
While Elizabeth is indeed my middle name, I won’t lie, I kind of like Elisabeth better- it has a softer feel to it, and you could still use the same nicknames for it. I might change my spelling to this.
When you don't know how to spell Elizabeth correctly.
My name is Elisabeth and over here in Continental Europe (I live in Germany) this version is very common as opposed to the "Elizabeth" that is mostly prevalent in English speaking countries. Overall it is a good name that will age gracefully
through every stage of life. :)
I like this spelling more than Elizabeth.
My name is Elisabeth. People spell it wrong a lot. I am named after my grandmother. Her mother didn't want to make her the usual spelling of Elizabeth. So she used an s. Now I'm happily named Elisabeth with an s. Except when people spell it wrong. Then I become angry. In school my name is always spelled wrong.
I think this looks better written out than Elizabeth.
When I think of the name Elisabeth, I see a woman in her 30's-40's, medium height, rather slightly built, with long, a little bit wavy, light brown hair, very expressive dark green or dark blue or grey eyes. She has something majestic about herself, is very feminine, maybe not beautiful, but nice to look at and it is visible easily that she is a trustworthy and wise person, who has a lot to say on different things but also keeps a lot to herself. She is very intelligent, introverted, highly sensitive, analytical, loves writing, being out in nature, she is altruistic and devotes herself wholely to her loved ones, not thinking much about herself. She doesn't like to talk a lot, but she thinks a lot, overthinks perhaps should we say, and when she does talk, people usually find what she says very valuable. She is a loner, but is not shy around people, just rather reserved and doesn't trust easily. She treasures her freedom and privacy, as well as her independence, and respects the privacy of others.
My middle name is Elisabeth. It’s a really nice name. I recommend it.
I love Elisabeth. :) I don't have any particular preference as for the spelling, I like both Elizabeth and Elisabeth, but what's definitely true in my opinion too, as many of the commenters wrote before, is that Elisabeth is more feminine. It is subtler, more gentle, a bit more classy, though I can't say Elizabeth isn't. Elisabeth is just that little bit more, and I like the Scandinavian feel in it. As an avid Swedish learner, I pronounce it e-LEE-sah-bet, not like Elizabeth.
Elisabeth is a fine spelling. But I personally love the normal standard spelling Elizabeth slightly more because that looks more elegant. I don’t hate the “s”, I like Elisabeth, but I love Elizabeth. Elizabeth is a very nice name and both spellings are nice.
My Christened name is ELISABETH because my mother wanted to call me LISA, but in the Ukrainian Orthodox church, the name is YELYSAVETA. This is because of Ukrainian rules of orthography (just as in other languages) and those of translation, etc.
Since the name originates from biblical times, which is Elizabeth, then in Ukrainian, the E changes into a Ye (a rounded E with wavy tongue), the I becomes a Y (the reversed capital N, not an oo) and the Z becomes an S (looks like a C)... and that's why Elizabeth is equivalent to Elisabeth!
The spelling of any name always depends upon not only personal preference, but also the origin of the name and also of the person, or their heritage!
ELISABETH is as unique as the individual who bears it. Spelling it this way is not incorrect, and by doing so you show respect to that person, their family and their whole culture.
Proud to sign my name...
ELISABETH.
In my opinion, this spelling looks more feminine and pretty than "Elizabeth". Plus, it's the Hebrew spelling, which is what I'll use for my future Jewish daughter.
My given name is Elisabeth. Everyone misspells it and my old nickname, Lissie, but I'm used to it. I no longer feel like either suits me and prefer to be called El now, but it's a nice name. I prefer it over Elizabeth.
As my name is Elisabeth, I love it. I love how unique it is. Especially in America. The problem is that everyone spells it wrong. Including my Grandma and my own siblings at times. I still love it, and all the nicknames it comes with. My favorites are Lizzie, Liz, Izzy, some of my friends even call me Lizbug, my baby brother calls me Sizy, and some even call me Lizard. For some reason I don't like the nickname Beth, apologies to those who do.
Elisabeth is a very beautiful name, with a beautiful meaning. Like one commenter said (Credits to them by the way), I prefer softer name spellings as they just look more feminine and more beautiful, like Stefanie and Elisabeth. Elizabeth I feel just looks improper, like the z doesn’t fit but s does and I love it. Good name, choose this over Elizabeth.
I love Elisabeth. It's so classic, elegant, has plenty of nicknames to choose from, is delicate and unique. However I like Elizabeth too and I can't tell which one I like more. The thing I don't like though is when people pronounce Elisabeth like Elizabeth. I like it pronounced e-LEE-sah-bet the most and that's how I pronounce it, it's a Swedish pronunciation.
Reminds me of a small slender woman with a fiery spirit.
Elizabeth is much more common. This spelling is more unique and avoids Liz as a nickname!
This is how I spell my name, and my parents said they just wanted it to be different. They still pronounce Elisabeth the same way you would pronounce Elizabeth. Also, for example, my nickname is Lissie, but it's still pronounced as Lizzie. Quite honestly, I love it.
I think I'm liking this spelling variation more than Elizabeth, although I think both are gorgeous. It's just that Elizabeth is so overused (no surprise there, it's beautiful!) Elizabeth is currently #12 while Elisabeth is in the 600's. Plus, I'm not a fan of the nickname Liz. It's not that it's awful or something, just that it's also super popular.
This is my second given name. It is after my German-born paternal grandmother. After emigrating to the U.S. she changed the spelling to "Elizabeth;" most likely due to convenience. My parents used the German spelling on my birth certificate; not a big deal since almost all my documents only require the middle initial!
I much prefer this spelling to Elizabeth, it's softer and more flattering. People saying it looks misspelled are just ignorant.
My middle name is Elisabeth and it's so much prettier and less harsh than Elizabeth. I am a quarter Dutch so that's where I get the spelling from and I like telling everyone that it's the original spelling of the name! The only problem is that my full name is 22 letters long but it doesn't really matter due to the fact I love my name. Some cute nicknames for Elisabeth could be Lissie, Lisa, Elisa, Isa, Beth, Bea for when they are younger and then when they are older they can be called by their full name. Another good thing about this name is that it's good for both old people and young people and everyone in between, so it's a win win situation as some names like Mia are suitable when they are young but aren't so when they grown up to become older. Sorry for rattling on so much, it's just I love writing!
Having been born in Austria, of course my name is spelled Elisabeth. When I became a naturalized citizen, I had the option of changing my name, but I prefer the original spelling.
We chose this as our daughter Genevieve's middle name. It's an absolutely beautiful name whether its spelled Elizabeth or Elisabeth; we just decided to spell it with an s to make it a little more unique, since Elizabeth is quite a common middle name. The s makes it softer in my opinion, but I have a feeling a lot of people will be spelling it wrong! It's easily correctable though, unlike with many of the 'creative' spellings of names today where people are changing multiple letters or just adding in completely new ones for no reason. If you love Elizabeth but are concerned about how common it is, Elisabeth is an equally gorgeous spelling that not many people use :-)
Elisabeth is the most classic name and it is so beautiful. I'd like to name a daughter Elisabeth. A plus to this spelling and pronunciation (Eel-liss-uh-beth) is that no one would call you Liz or Lizzie. Elisabeth is a wonderful name.
This is one of my names - the one I'm proud of, but never called by. Good nicknames for a girl might be Ellie or Lissy; for an older person, maybe Beth. Here's something interesting, if you're a Christian and like etymology. In Hebrew, "beth" means "house" and "El" means "God". "El is a Beth" - God is a house, a real home. But if you like etymology too much, that *won't* sound good because it's fake.
This is what I'm changing my middle name to! I think it's beautiful and sophisticated, and I much prefer this spelling to Elizabeth-this one sounds much softer, and it's less common. My mom says she might have chosen this for my middle name had my dad not chosen Kelly - yuck! :(
I love the spelling, it looks so much softer than the "z" variant.
I really like this name. It's a variant of Elizabeth, and not quite as overused. It is beautiful, and I think is much softer than Elizabeth. It's a simply amazing name.
I really like this as a middle name, I think it's an interesting twist on the way too common Elizabeth. My middle name is Victoria so I think it would be cool to keep the "royal" sounding names going.
I really prefer this to Elizabeth. It just looks softer and more feminine, I don't like the z in Elizabeth.
My middle name is Elizabeth. I have always hated it with a passion. Now that I'm older, I still despise it as my middle name, but it isn't bad as someone else's name. I have a friend that calls me Eliza Beth. Yuck, lol. I like Elliebeth, it is cute though.
Elisabeth is a name for an old hag. It seems like I have to beg my mom to change my name. I hate it so much, like I want to hold it by its legs and throw it out the window, lol.
This is my middle name and it's not very common which is a positive and I also think it's a pretty name. I would recommend this name to my friends.
I love this name and the spelling of it. Elizabeth with a z feels a bit harsh so I like it better with an s. I plan to use this as a middle name for my first daughter. I love the great namesakes it has, Elizabeth from Pirates, Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice, the Queen of England and it's also the middle name of my favourite actress: Kate Winslet.
My name is Elisabeth Anne and I am named after my mother Elizabeth Anne. One must note that there are complications that come up regarding personal information since we are often mistaken for one another and there is no Jr. Or I/II like for male members. I do indeed LOVE the spelling since it is still old fashioned yet different. The nicknames given to me by family and friends have been Lisabeth, Lisbeth, and Lis (L-iss) which is said/sounds as just Liz.
My daughter who will be three soon is called Elisabeth June. I chose this name because I so love Elizabeth but I wanted her name to be a little more special. I also have a sister named Elisa so it honours her too. Elisabeth is called Bessie because she seems much too little to be an Elisabeth yet! But when she's older she can use it if she ever outgrows Bess.
My name is Elisabeth. I don't really like the name for myself, but I like it for others. Why don't I like it for myself? Because I don't feel like it matches me. It's a long name and many people write it wrong. I have seen people writing it with a z or with a t instead of th. I really don't like these troubles with my names. My friends call me Eli or Nia (the last name has nothing to do with Elisabeth though).
I think this spelling is much nicer than Elizabeth. I prefer softer spellings and pronunciations of names. I pronounce this spelling Eh-liss-eh-beth, and the Elizabeth spelling Eh-liz-eh-beth.
I much prefer this spelling to the over-used 'Elizabeth', a 'z' in a name can sound a little harsh, whereas an 's' looks and sounds more dainty and gentle. Same as with xHOWTOSAVEALIFE, I would also pronounce it as it is written and not a 'z' sound. :S
I love this spelling of the name Elizabeth. I think it has a softer feel to it and reminds me of a flower. I plan to use this as the middle name of a daughter I may have.
I prefer this over Elizabeth.
This is my middle name. Growing up I HATED that my mother spelled it with the "s" rather than the "z". But now that I am grown I prefer it! I like the fact that it was the original spelling, that means a lot to me. I would also like to carry on the name and I will spell it Elisabeth, with the "s" (my kid will probably hate me for it! Meh!)
It's a lovely name. I know four people with this name, and one with Elisabet. They're all great. I don't know anyone with z-s though!
Elisabeth is my middle name, and I love it very much!
I like this name because there are so many nicknames associated with it. My favorites are Betty and Elise.
I love the name Elisabeth! I like this spelling much better than Elizabeth. I plan to name my first daughter Elisabeth Amelie, possibly Elise as a nickname.
I think this is a very misspelled version of Elizabeth.
I apologize for my previous input. I like this name, actually. This spelling is quite interesting. I'm just so used to Elizabeth, though. Lovely name, however!
Elisabeth is not a misspelling of Elizabeth, it's the original spelling. Elizabeth only became the most popular spelling after Queen Elizabeth I took to the the throne of England.
