This is my top boy name pick. I wouldn’t pick it for a girl, but I don’t mind it on a girl at all. Maybe Evelyn for a girl?
Plain and pretty boring.
Evan is simple and cool. It's always been in my top 10 boys' names. I think the sound is really good too. Overall, it's a great name.
Evan is a beautiful and fresh sounding, modern name. I chose it as a middle name for one of my sons, Jacob Evan. I did not like it as a first name but I like it very much as a middle name. I believe that while all names should be chosen very carefully, first names especially so. I chose Jacob because I believe it to be a strong and masculine first name. Evan somehow balances out the name Jacob and it rolls off the tongue. As a middle name, I also chose Evan as a variation on another family name, in honor of my favorite uncle, Ivan. I think Evan is an elegant and masculine name. Personally, I do not like "Evan" as a girl's name, although I think all of the feminine forms of this name are quite beautiful and elegant. One more big reason I like Evan is because it is a short, 4 letter name with 2 syllables. I like how the first name has the descender J while the rest of his name are all ascenders. It balances out our last name which is longer. Evan, a very beautiful name!
You guys remember Final Destination Two?Yeah, anytime I hear the name Evan, that's all I can think of.
I knew of someone who named himself Evan after evanescence.
It is a young and lively name. I like this name.
I don't really understand why people are making such a big deal about girls having the name Evan. I'm a guy with the name; I couldn't care less. Yes, I've met far more guys with my name than girls, but that's not to say that I haven't met more than a few girls bearing it.But after seeing just how many comments there are, this really got stuck in my head. So I ran the numbers. And according to the Social Security's record of babies since the 1890s, Evan as a name for both boys AND girls is far from a new idea. It's shown up in US government records of baby girls since 1915, and every single year since 1948, decades longer than all of its modern and contrived variations like 'Evann', 'Evanna', &, uh, 'Evania' (among too many others). Likewise, simplicity sticks: it's consistently been way more popular than all of the derivatives, and these days it's even eclipsing the normal related names like Yvonne! So to any prospective parents out there looking to give their son or daughter a name that they like, keep in mind that the people who argue about this stuff online are the odd and opinionated few (including myself). I'll probably catch some flak from people with nothing better to do than literally debate semantics; no need to defend me, I don't mind. But it's up to you if you want total strangers on the Internet to make a moral judgement of YOUR kid's name. It's been used for girls since at least 1915, and it continues to outdo its variations. So if you want to give your kid the feminine version of Evan... name them Evan.(Please, just name her Evan. I saw at least twelve "feminine" versions of Evan, don't be that parent who names your daughter 'Evani' to put her one misspelling away from bottled water.)
Very handsome.
More interesting on paper than it sounds if that makes sense.
I mean it's alright like...it's overrated.
I prefer it to the boring John. I like it.
I personally love it for a boy. It sounds sweet and adorable and strong and manly at the same time.
Evana, Yvonne and Yvonna are all the female variation of this name.
It's such a very nice name.
I guess Evan and Vanessa are nice because of the word evanescent.
Evan can be a name for boys and girls :3 stop being toxic and just deal with it.
My chosen name is Evan!
I am masculine and my name is Evan, I feel bad for those women/girls who are named Evan.
I recently changed my name to Ēvan, pronounced like Yvonne. This name has grown on me a lot.
This is one of the few names I'd consider for a son. It has a genuine sound. A high vibrational name. I like how the v makes it somewhat unusual too despite the shortness and simplicity. I'm glad the name isn't overused despite a cool Celtic origin.
I used to despise Evan, but I love it now. It's good on its own, and as a nickname for Evander.
I quite like it. I think it's a good alternative of John.
I dislike it. Sounds plain.
Strong and natural.
Wow, my name is Evan and I'm a female, and my parents have yet to face the "Consequences". I think it's alright to say that you don't like it but to literally say negative things is ridiculous.
Evan is a good name but why is it a girl name? Evan does not sound like a girl's name and my name is Evan and I am now mad about finding this out. If a girl is named Evan they are a disgrace to this world!
Evan isn’t a girl name. The hell?
Oh god, people are actually naming their DAUGHTERS Evan? The boys just can't have any names for themselves anymore, can they? If you're planning on naming your daughter Evan, then I recommend you choose Eva or Ivanna/Evanna. Thank you for reading.
My daughter’s name is, Evan. Evan Reese. She is a charming, creative, intelligent and compassionate child who honestly loves all people, and God, I can’t imagine her being anyone but Evan! My little girl happens to be autistic, too. She has a head full of soft curls, and a smile that’ll melt you right where you stand. Some of these comments, I’ve noticed, are really mean-spirited, and close-minded. Her name isn’t “awful” and it’s FAR from “boring”.
It's a very nice name for a boy. For a girl... just go with Evanna/Ivanna instead.
I really don't like this name.
This is my boyfriend's name. He says it's boring but at the same time unusual. One of those names you think are common, but you only know one person named it.
I love this name. Simple classic, still a touch unusual.
Strong and fulfilling name! Much better than John.
I think that this name is a good alternative to other more commonly used first names that begin with the letter 'E'.
Evan is honestly one of those good old fashioned go-to names. It’s not unique, very common actually, but many people like the simple things in life.
A very bland, yawn-inducing name. Not good, not bad, just... there. Actually, that makes it kind of a bad name after all.
Good alternative to the more common name Ethan.
All of you haters should keep this to yourselves. My name is Evan and it is the most perfect brave name. It stands for young warrior. :)
Evan is a great name. I feel like people who comment negative things about the name are disregarded by the fact they still voted this name as bad.
Honestly, I like my name. It's short, it's simple, and it leaves a good feel. There's a lot of people in the comments saying things like, "horrible name", and things like that, even when their name has its own 'horribleness'. Most of the people I talk to like the name as well. If you're thinking about the name Evan, then go for it.
My name is Evan. I personally like it, even though it is more commonly known as a boy name, and I am a girl. :)
Evan is an amazing name.
I feel this is a perfectly common name and many people prefer it without drawing attention to themselves. I only met a few and they play a subdued role in public, maybe it's the name.
I personally like the name "Evan". It's short and simple. I read the earlier comments saying how much people liked the name. I looked at the more recent, and there is a bit more negativity shed toward it. I'm quite happy with my first name, thank you very much. (From a male Evan to anyone reading this) Oh, and I'm a teenager.
Evan is a basic name. If you name your kid Evan he'll be a horrible person so don't do that to yourself. Nah, just kidding.
There was an Evan at my high school who looked like a young Marlon Brando. He made the varsity football team freshman year. He was THAT guy... and he was a total sweetheart. Genuinely nice guy, not unlike Chris Hemsworth.
This is another one of those boring, suburban names all the conservative, "keepin' up with the Jones's" couples are using. Just so "safe"!
I've had a nice experience with this name. It's really simple and calm, as well as complex in a way. It does remind me of a youtuber known as Evan Fong, and he's a really great guy.
I think the name Evan is so annoying.
This is my son's name with the middle name Gabriel. It sounds handsome and easy going to me, and it's uncommon enough that not every kid has it, but familiar enough that we don't have problems with it. We have gotten compliments from others who we tell his name to. In Hebrew it means God is Gracious and in Welsh it means young warrior- a perfect meaning for a guy. It works well on a baby, and boy, and a grown man which I like. Part of the reason why I used it was because it's a variation of the name John, and my grandfather's name was Juan (Spanish variation of John) so in a way my son's name is honoring my grandfather.
Anyone who doesn't think the name Evan sounds "girly" enough could go with the name Evany.I had never heard the name until I was doing research into my family history at the library. We're Irish and the clan name my ancestors used for daughters was Evany. Everyone I tell the name to seems to like it and I love it! It's a cute Irish name!
I wouldn't believe that France would use this because it's Welsh and English.
Evan is one of the few masculine names where I can nod and go, "Yeah, I guess I can see why people named their daughters this." Even though I wouldn't personally choose to do so - the established (but rare) feminine form, Evanna, is too beautiful to pass up.But Evan is a rather... effete name. Soft. Whatever the opposite of "vigorous" or "tenacious" is. I wouldn't necessarily call my taste in masculine names
"macho" by any stretch of the word, but the name Evan just doesn't inspire confidence.
I would not at all mind using this name for a son but considering that I have a niece named "Aven" (Ay-vən) I most likely wouldn't be able to use it- at least as a first name. Evan would have to be a middle name option if I did ever decide to use it. (:Scramble the letters of Aven around, you get Evan and same thing with Evan if you scramble that around.
Evan is just plain gross. Sorry.
What is wrong with parents these days? There's already enough unisex names as it is. Why slap more boy names on girls? Evan was, still is, and will always be a masculine name. You parents wouldn't slap a girl name on a boy, so why do it vice-versa? Man, boy names are never safe.
My youngest son is Evan. I don't love the name but my husband named him. He happens to to be extremely good looking and very kind.
I am a woman and MY name is EVAN.
I'm neither a nerd nor a man; I'm an artist. My mother liked the name and had decided that I would be Evan no matter what my gender. Yes, it has caused a few problems over the years, but I have accepted it as a part of who I am and I respect my mother for her choice. Usually, when people meet me I receive positive comments about it. And, I like the fact that it is unusual.
Very decent and highly respectable name(:
I kind of like this name, but in the back of my head all I can think of is Freaky Friday. Jamie Lee Curtis was some type of psychologist and had a very dependent sad patient named Evan.
Evan is a simple name with a nice sound, but it's also too popular at the moment for my taste. And no, it should never be used on a girl: celebrities have wacky names, but even Evan Rachel Wood uses her middle name so she wouldn't be thought of as a man.
I really love this name. It's in my top three for guys.
Seems like I'm the only one who doesn't like this name. The sound isn't terrible, it's just too trendy and doesn't seem like it'll age well to me.
My brother is also named Evan, and his name suits him very well. For some reason, many people think of Evan as a name for short, dark guys, but my brother is 6'5" with blonde hair and blue eyes, so a lot of people change their perception of the name after meeting him. Also, I have heard of it as a girls name, but the only other girl Evan I know of (besides Evan Rachel Woods) is Evelyn, Evan for short.
Evan is my brothers name. It's cool and reminds me of humorous boys- like my brother. Evan means something like " god is good." I really like the sound of his name!
This is an adorable name! Melys11, this is my bros name too, and if I have a son I would consider the name. Evan sounds modern but suits all ages and many people. I'm so glad this name is getting popular. My brother is a very nice, generous person, so I think it is a very good name for an influence.
I love the name, but surprisingly, although I love it so much, I prefer it for a middle name. It could be a mix for styles: adorable; shy; nerdy; sweet, but also sexy; dangerous; bad boy. A mix of every quality! If I was a boy, I would have wanted the name Evan.
Sounds like a great name for musicians. Pretty much every Evan I've met was a musician.
Cute for a guy, NEVER for a girl.
I love the name Evan it's such a guy name. My boyfriend's name is Evan and he's such a great guy!
I like this name for a boy, but it sounds stupid on a girl. It doesn't sound that feminine. Leave this name to the boys and use Evanna on girls instead.
Very nice and it's not even too common. But I have no idea why people think that this would be good for a girl. It sounds horrible on any woman.
I like this name for a girl. I have a friend who named her daughter Evan. =)
I LOVE this name! I imagine a good-looking guy with this name. This is actually my boyfriend's name who is 15. So, yes I love it!
This is probably my favorite masculine name, and yes I think it's definitely more masculine. I love this name.
There's something about this name that appeals to me, yet I don't know what. I really like the sound of it, anyway. =D
Cute for a little boy. Great for a teenager. Awesome for an adult. You can't go wrong with this name for either gender.
I like the name, even though it is very common and a bit dull. It has a pleasant sound, and it's short and simple. It doesn't sound like the name of a jerk either.
We love this name, we named our son Evan. This is the only name I personally liked and it is tough for me to pick and choose a name for my children being a school teacher. It is not widely used at all and it is still the name that everyone knows how to pronounce and spell! I love it!
I like this name, it's short, simple and sounds good.
I know I've already shared my opinion on this name, but I'll do it again. I still like this name, and I happen to know somebody who has it. I think most Evan's are nice people--I've never met a bad seed named Evan.
I like the name Evan. It's a very strong-sounding name.
I like this name for a boy. My father's name is John, so I might use this less popular equivalent of John. I don't like Ian, another equivalent of John.
I really like the name Evan. I was on a website that said Evan was Irish for Young Warrior. I really like this name. It's adorable.
Brings to mind a good-looking, sensitive boy. I really like this name.
I like the name Evan for a boy. It is masculine and fun sounding.
Evan Lysacek is currently my favorite celebrity, but I liked the name Evan before I had ever heard of him. I definitely like it for a boy - not a girl! Unfortunatly others like it too and it is getting quite common.
