Soft, feminine and perfectly whimsical. It sounds like a princess's name (probably because when i was little i read a fairy tale with a princess by that name). It makes me think of gold too.
Old fashioned.
Yes, it is; and that’s beautiful.
Quite unattractive.
I hear "gild" as in "gold-plated" in that name.
Such a beautiful name. It carries the simplicity in spelling and syllables that are so popular today, but the sound itself is out of fashion (along the same lines as Hester and Agathe). That makes it so much fresher for use today. Plus, the meaning is beyond positive and expresses a lot of potential and love for any child. I am especially fond of the Italian pronunciation, and hope this name becomes fashionable again.
This is my great aunt's name. She is the only Gilda I have ever met and heard of in my life so far! It's unique in a good way.
This name sounds very refined and elegant, it's quite chic and classy. It makes me think of the movie "Gilda" so I picture a beautiful light skinned girl with reddish/brown hair who is glamorous and seductive.
