Haruka written with the kanji for distant (遥) is used more often as a boy's name in Japan.

Haruka was last year's most popular girl name in Japan in terms of sound (Aoi {葵} was the most popular in terms of both the kanji and the combination of kanji/kana & sound).

For boys, in terms of sound, it's in 188th place.

*I didn't put up the ranking for boys since the kanji used is more often used as Yū.

Let me also add that there are 2 surveys conducted by Benesse and Meiji Yasuda Life every year to determine which name was the most popular. In terms of sound, Benesse puts Haruka (girl) at 17th place while Meiji Yasuda Life puts Haruka (girl) at 16th. Since Japan doesn't have an official popularity list, the data that I put up on BTN should not be used as pure evidence of which names are currently popular.

遥 is unisex, not feminine only.
