Apparently on here, it says that Janie is a diminutive of Jane, but how? Janie is longer than Jane so how is it a diminutive?
In 2018, 63 is the most common age for an American (U.S.) Janie* who is registered female with the Social Security Administration. It is the 772nd most common female first name for living U.S. citizens.*as a first name, not a nicknamePS To the anonymous user who doesn't understand what a diminutive is in terms of names and left that same comment all over this website, a diminutive name or word is formed from another by the addition of a suffix expressing smallness in size (ergo, cuteness): a booklet is a small book, a novella is a short novel, a duckling is a baby duck, etc.
The name Janie was given to 167 girls born in the US in 2015.
The name Janie was given to 162 baby girls born in the US in 2012. I think it makes a nice nickname for Jane, which is a little more mature and not as sweet as Janie. It's also very uncommon, which is a plus!
