I remember we had to learn about a poet by the name of Janus Pannonius in school. As his name suggests, he was Hungarian. He was also a catholic priest and a bishop. He is regarded as the first Hungarian poet who achieved international fame (although his poems were not in Hungarian but in Latin of course).
