Pronounced "choa-KEEN".
Hi! I'm from Argentina and I am an English teacher, so actually the phonetic symbol for the very first letter is "x", not common in English, but in Spanish. That's the reason why it's difficult for some to pronounce; I don't think people name their children with this name after J Phoenix, because it is used a lot in Spain and Latin countries. I named my son Joaquin, but he is called by his middle name at kinder, because there are two other boys named Joaquin. I chose it because it's a Spanish name and we are Spanish descendants, but his middle name is from Arabian origin.
The Portuguese way can also be spelled Joaquin without the accent over it though. In Portuguese it's said "zho-ah-kee".
Pronounced Wah-KEEN.
Actually, it's pronounced more like hwah-KEEN.
