In Gematria calculation the name "Brigitte" is equivalent to "Yonatan" or Jonathan.

I believe that, before the United States was personified as Uncle Sam," we were known as "Brother Jonathan." See, for example, Fanny Trollope's Domestic Manners of the American People. Or search "brother Jonathan wiki."

Perhaps identifying Americans--and especially Yankees--with the name Jonathan alludes to the Puritan's liking for Old Testament names. Even today I think that Americans use Old Testament names more frequently than the British do. Perhaps names like Jonah, Noah, and Aaron are also in this category, as well as more unusual names like Jedediah.

My last name is one syllable and, like Jon Hamm and Jon Stewart, I generally go by Jon. I like it that way because there is no unstressed syllable. The downside is the inevitable spelling confusion with John.
