I think Cara spelled with a C seems more calm, subdued, and elegant, whereas Kara spelled with a K seems more youthful, spunky and fun. Although, I have only ever met Cara's never a Kara.
Pretty name! Love as a nickname for Karina although I would spell it with a C, Carina.
I prefer this spelling over Cara.
Gorgeous!
My name is Kara. Pronounced care-uh. I've never been fond of my name. I think it's quite boring sounding. There just isn't anything interesting, pretty or unique about it and it's always bothered me. I was born in the late 70's and my mom thought it was a "unique" name. She said there were a ton of Tara's, Sarah's and Kerry's.. And she thought Kara was pretty and simple but different from the norm at the time. Also, as several others have said... Why do so many people pronounce this name wrong?
My name is Kara, pronounced Kare-uh. My middle name is LeAnne, also unique in its spelling. My mom loved the name Kara after reading a book with a character with the name. My family is Irish and Scottish in descent and my parents also wanted to honor my heritage. Although the original Cara in its spelling, Kara is the Scottish spelling and my last name is of Scottish descent. I am often mistakenly called Kar-uh and I don’t like it. It seems after you correct someone they will still continue to mispronounce it. I have only met a few Kara’s in person and one was named after me because her mother loved my name. I was born in the mid seventies and although I was a military brat and lived all over the country and in Australia, my family originated in the Pacific Northwest. Everywhere I have been I have rarely met someone who has known a Kara and have never met anyone who has had a negative opinion of my name.
I have always loved being a Kara. The name is unique and everyone I have ever met has complimented me on my the beauty of my name. I am also tall, green eyed and curly blonde haired and I feel the name and pronunciation fit my looks and personality. I always try to be as kind and sweet as my name suggests. To all the Kara’s of the world, wear your name with pride and present yourself as beautiful as your name.
My aunt has this name, she has to be the most accepting and sweet person I have ever met. I have never seen her get mad, not even once. I always thought her name was like the word 'caring', it's funny because that is exactly what she is. The most caring person I have ever met.
Love this name so much more with a K rather than a C! In my opinion, the C spelling is overrated, and to me, looks incomplete. Not to mention I love the association with Supergirl, despite hers being pronounced 'Car-uh' while I like it more pronounced 'Care-uh'.
I have never cared for this name. It sounds like someone who came from a bad neighborhood or a trailer park and was raised by a dysfunctional broken family. Karen is more classic and a lot more professional.
Harsh. Basic.
I have no clue why my mom chose the name Kara for me. I do know that she originally wanted to name me Sunshine, Sunny for short, but thankfully changed her mind. Thankfully because the name wouldn't fit me, not one little bit. My name is pronounced Care-uh and like the others said, it gets mispronounced ALL the time! In fact, I often correct people time after time and they never ever get it right which I think is rather rude. Do you pronounce the name Sarah as "Sah-ra"? Or Tara as "Tah-ra"? No! So why pronounce Kara as "Kah-ra" (or "car-uh")? To everyone who commented something negative about the name Kara, I feel so bad for you. You have nothing better to do than post on a random website that you don't like a certain name? Who does that? There are so many other fun things to do on the internet. And that's what you do with your past time? GET A LIFE! Especially the person who said "Kara is the ugliest name" they've ever heard. That sounds unbelievably unintelligent, FYI. You sound like a jealous 12 year old school girl. What, is the popular girl at your school that you're jealous of and wish you were as cool/pretty/smart/etc as, named Kara? Green with envy.
My name is Kara, pronounced (Care-uh). I'm from the United States and I have only really met one other Kara. I love my name, it has a beautiful meaning in Irish which my mom loved as she wanted my siblings and I to have Irish names. I do not like my name being confused with the sound alikes (Car-uh, Key-rah). I hate my name being mispronounced, which happens quite a bit. I love my name due to the fact it is not that common like Emily or Maddison, just a tad problematic if you get into the same class with the rhyming names such as Sarah or Tarah. I also like that it was derived from Katherine which is a royal name which makes me feel all fancy and special.
My name is Kara Marie and I was born in 1979 when it was a new name, still not known in the state of Louisiana which is on the gulf of Mexico. I too love my name and through my life have met only two other Karas (one with a C-ara) and seen profiles on social media sites of a few who are spelt the same and it is weird but we all seem to have some sort of uniqueness or feeling of being spiritual and different than others- the "Cara" was not like us, I assume the K is why lol... but strange I find us all to be...

My name was going to be Kari Marie but thankfully due to Horror movie, "KARI" which came out right before I was born, my parents changed it at the last second to Kara. I was born a cancer on St Johns Day JUNE 24th 1979. I love my name and that it has many meanings.
My name is Kara lee. At first my mom never heard of it, nor did I, but now in Tennessee I've heard and I've seen it everywhere. It has now became common, but I still can't seem to find anything with my name on it. I also hate when people pronounce it the wrong way. It makes me so mad, but I do love my name so much it is considered a southern name here. Great name.
My name is Kara Michelle. It is not a common name here in the US. But I do like it because it isn't that common. And it is pronounced "Care-uh" not "CAR-RA".
Short and sweet, I love this name. Pronounced "CARE-uh" or "CAR-uh," it's pretty and can suit many different personalities -- though I do think its versatility can make it somewhat boring. Still, I like it very much.
My mum & dad named me Kara because in Ireland that means friend, so my mum and dad were hoping I would be a nice girl and make lots of friends- that's why I was named Kara.
I really love the name Kara or even Kara-Leigh because just by hearing the beautiful name wants to make you smile and makes you really happy. My mum called me Kara because 1) it's a beautiful name and 2) she thought that it wasn't popular, when really it is. Over 1 million people have the name Kara or Kara-Leigh (same spellings, too) so if you have a baby on board call it Kara-Leigh or Kara, because it will make that baby proud.
My name is Karea the e is silent. I always get compliments on my name about how pretty it is with the spelling being diffrent. I personally don't know any other Kara's, and yes most of the time people say my name wrong or misspell my name but I'm used to it now so it doesn't bother me. I've been called Korea as a joke. I don't think it's a bad name.
I don't like this name. It sounds trendy, made-up and has a weird sound. I think my dislike stems from people I've met more than the name itself, though. I've met a few Kara's, but never one that I even remotely liked. That doesn't mean nice Kara's don't exist, it just means I haven't met one. This is one of my least favorite names, so I wouldn't use it, but if you want to, I can't think of a good reason why you shouldn't (though I wouldn't necessarily recommend it).
My name is Kara, spelt with a k and I like it a lot. In my personal opinion it's better with the k than the c for the c sounds to alike it's Latin origin. I find it very pretty and it sounds sophisticated too, which makes it all the more attractive. And to all the people who do not like this name, MY name, I wish you would reconsider your opinion though I do not mind what you think about it:):*
Personally better than Cara.
I have known plenty of girls called 'Kara'. This is because I grew up in a poor neighbourhood and there were very few families with any real class. Cheap and tacky in the extreme.
This name isn't wonderfully elegant or extremely beautiful, but it has a simple, down-to-earth ring to it. I like this name.
I LOVE LOVE this name. But not as a diminutive as Katherine or Karoline or anything. Just Kara. I like it better with a K. If I had a daughter this would be her name.=
My sister's name Kara with a 'k' and she loves it. I think it's a really good name too bad it's getting popular.
It sounds like a person who is kind and gentle. I quite like the name.
My middle name is Karra with two R's, and is prounced "Kar-da" with a D, unless in America, where I seem to be either this name (Care-ah) or Car-ah, which I saw people had said, too. My middle name is extremely similar to this. It's interesting, but my name seems to be pronounced differently. I like the name Kara, though, it seems. I don't know; Cute?
This name may not render people speechless with its originality and uncommon beauty, but I like the name all the same. It sounds poetic and beautiful to me in some unexplainable way, despite being quite common, simple, and nothing out of ordinary. I like this much better spelled with a 'k', as the 'c' variant looks too much like the Italian word, which still makes me think of an annoying song I had to sing in elementary school.
I like the name Kara. I think it is pretty and only works for some people. I have only known one Kara in my life, so it is pretty unique.
This name is cool. At least it's not overused like Jamie of Mary, of course.
My name is Kara. I like it very much, because it's unusual without being bizarre. The only bad thing about being named Kara is that it gets mispronounced at least half the time. In fact, it happens so often that I actually get a great first impression of people that pronounce my name right on the first try. That's rather messed up.Still, it's a lovely name.
This is the ugliest name I ever heard.
Kara means cold (f) in Hebrew and it's a cool name. I like it especially in the summer ;) By the way, shark in Hebrew will be karish.
My name is Kara and I love it although it means EMPTY. Because it is!
I like the name better pronounced KHAR-UH (as in CAR-UH) but both are pretty.
I think this is a very pretty name with a nice meaning. It is strong yet delicate and feminine.
Kara is a very, very hot name.
My name is Kara (not Karavan) and I really like it also. I am from Australia. Here Kara means Possum in Aboriginal. I have only met a handful of Kara's and have had an instant connection with all of them I think because our name isn't a popular one. I studied Japanese a few years ago and in the their language the word Kara is used for 3 different meanings!
My name is Kara and I love it. None of my friends have the same name as me and I'm my own person. It's not that common of a name and I think there are only some people the name would be good for.
The first time I heard the name was when I was watching Dragonheart (not the most profound film in the world I know). In that film there's a girl called Kara and my impression of the name Kara is linked to her. She's a redhead and she's really cool (IMO anyway). She's rebellious and stands up for herself.
I would consider naming my child Kara in the future!
My personal impression is not very good, as my father named me Kara after watching a horror film called The Awakening about an evil Egyptian goddess called Kara.
