The name may also be related to Caoilfhionn perhaps... but it's not because of Irish phonology.

There is nothing Modern or American about the name Kaylyn. It's Gaelic! Americans think they're the inventors of everything. The only thing American about the name Kaylyn is its spelling.
The user who claimed that this name is Gaelic is incorrect. Kaylyn is a recently made combination of Kay and Lyn. It has no meaning either. This name is very much modern and American. The closest this name is to being Gaelic is "Cailín", but even then, it is a WORD meaning "girl", it is not an actual name, and it is pronounced differently.
This is not a Gaelic name. The letters "K" and "Y" are not used in Gaelic.
Couldn't it be an anglicised form of Caoilfhionn? Anywhoo, I hate this name.
Form of Katherine.
A "Form of Catherine"? No, it's just another dreadfully obnoxious Modern English name. The "-lyn/-aylyn" names grate my nerves; your children are not young forever, they will grow, and they will be adults, and I cannot see anybody taking seriously teenagers or adults with trendy names like these.
